Silva's WYSIWYG editor can be used with the following browsers:

Login to the Silva management area.
To enable the Kupu Editor click on “user settings” located at the bottom left of the Silva Management area (Fig.1).
The “user settings” link will launch a small pop-up user settings form.

Select ‘kupu’ from the preferred editor drop down list, then fill in
your name and email address. Filling in your email address will enable
you to be contacted by your Editor when you submit your document for
publication (Fig. 2).
Click save (alt-s), and the Kupu Editor will now be set as the default editor for documents you are editing.
To edit documents with Kupu, go to the document you wish to edit in the Silva Management area or add a document.
Click on editor in the top navigation bar. This screen has a second level navigation bar immediately below. If the kupu editor button is not highlighted (green) click it to activate the kupu editor.
The Kupu editor is divided into three areas: the Toolbar, the editing area, and the Toolbox on the right hand side of the screen. The Kupu Toolbar is just below the Silva navigation (Fig. 3).

Kupu uses many of the same commands as typical word processors such as Microsoft Word. For example buttons in the top toolbar are the same as in Word. To change a word or words select the text and then click the appropriate button. (Fig. 3) In Silva the Kupu editor is configured so you cannot change the font face to a different font or color your text. These settings are set by the site designer to ensure a harmonious look to the site.
3a. There are three ways to save a document:
Note: all new work added into a document must be saved before you change or refresh your screen.
If you refresh your screen without saving your work you will lose it!

3b. To preview your work, that is to view your work as it will appear within your website's specific design, click on the public preview... button which is above the Kupu tool bar. Use your browser’s back button to return.
Remember: save your work before previewing.
3c. If you have an Author role and wish to submit your work for publication, click on publish in the top navigation bar.
Fill in the request for approval form and click request approval. This action alerts the Chief Editor that there is a document to review (Fig. 5).

To add a link, highlight the appropriate text, then type the URL or web address into the links properties area. Include ”http://” in the URL, and click insert link. For example: http://www.infrae.com/
You can also click get link reference... and locate an item within Silva (Fig. 6).
To edit a link, place the cursor in it, and click update link.
For Internet Explorer users, you will notice that the text selection will not appear to be selected. However as soon as you enter the URL and click insert link the URL will be inserted in the text.

Using the Silva indexing facility allows you to index your text.
Place your cursor in a location in the text that you wish the indexer to reference. Then type the keywords – the words that will appear in the index – into the index input form (Fig. 7). Click insert index. You will see the keywords highlighted with yellow in the area you clicked your cursor. Save.

Note: For the indexer to work you need to first add an Indexer in the Contents Screen. Only documents that are published will be indexed. The Indexer should be updated if new documents are added (Fig. 8).

Place the cursor where you want the image to appear in your document, then click get image reference... (Fig. 9). In the resulting pop-up screen select the radio button next to the image you wish to add and click place reference....
If you need to upload an image into Silva, click new image.... In the popup window upload your image, then select the radio button next to it and click place reference....

Note: Currently images will appear at the left hand margin only. In the preview the alignment will show.
Place the cursor where you want the external source to appear in your document then click add external source (Fig. 10) Further details on adding an External Source

Click on add external source and fill in the details of your External Source. (Fig. 11)

To add a citation or reference to the body of your document fill out the citation form and click insert citation. (Fig. 12)

View the citation in your document by clicking on the public preview tab in the top navigation area. In Kupu you will just see a blank form.
This is the text of the citation. Only this text appears in the editing area, however the author and/or source will be shown in the preview and published version of the document.

To add a table, place the cursor where you want the table to appear.
Configure the table properties in the table properties area of the toolbox. Click add (Fig. 14).

Click anywhere on the table. This will change the properties box to the properties in Fig. 15.

To add a
table of contents for the items in your Folder or Publication go to the
“table of contents” properties in the right hand toolbox (Fig. 16).
Select the level of nesting you wish to reveal from the drop down list and click add toc. You will see the words Table of Contents appear in your document highlighted by a yellow background. Click save. To view the table of contents click on public preview... above the Kupu Editor. Use your browser’s back button to return.

When
you have created a table of contents in your document, the table of
contents properties area changes to reveal two more options. You can change the number of levels in your contents. Click the drop down list to choose a different level and then click the change toc button to save this change. To delete the table of contents press the delete toc button (Fig. 17).

The
following typographical characters can be added to your document by
copying and pasting them from the toolbox area.

With the curser inside the editor right click your mouse to get a context menu with these editing shortcuts.
